“Gyal Dem Diction”

Toronto-based artist, Sydanie, has released the second single, “Gyal Dem Diction”, from her forthcoming album, Eclectic Circus, expected in 2025. The track is a punchy summer rap anthem, a declaration of southside Jane street pride and lyrical prowess.

While Sydanie quickly pivots from her usual “purple wig house music” to a long white tee vibe as she jokingly describes, she flexes her consistent ability to deliver fun, high quality lyricism across beats and subgenres in hip hop. Inspired by hot summer nights in Toronto on the Jane, the recommended dance move for gyal dem diction is anything with two fingers and your thumb up in the air.

Toronto born, Jamaican-Trinidadian artist and mother, Sydanie, is leveling all expectations and setting the bar for women in Toronto’s hip-hop scene. Not confined to the restrictions that any genre could impose on her creativity, Sydanie is creating a diverse array of texturized, unique, synth-driven sounds, while unapologetically carrying her Southside Jane neighbourhood in tow.

Her impeccable production treatments run the spectrum from house to ambient trap and her nuanced soundscape provides the foundations for Sydanie to unpack her lyrical fireworks. Her verses, ranging from meditative to incendiary, transmit a contagious momentum that results in intense thrills for listeners.

 About Sydanie:

Since she began rapping she has released three EPs—Public Intoxication, Stillwater and 999—and a host of singles including “I want u 2 see this”, “purple carousel”, “dats soft”, “taste next summer” and “flirt.”

Following features on The FADER, VICE, and being longlisted for a 2019 Polaris Prize, the self-proclaimed supernatural rapper has gone on to relaunch the MOCHA Project: her grassroots community arts project for mothers of colour, while completing a doula certification fundraiser program.
