We’re excited to announce our partnership with the Calgary International Film Festival (CIFF).
Come celebrate CIFF’s 22nd year, from September 23rd to October 3rd. The festival will showcase a selection of 175+ feature and short films produced in Canada and internationally. Check out One of Ours, a film directed by Yasmine Mathurin that explores the toll of activism, and Dear Future Children directed by Franz Böhm, a story of transracial adoption – telling the story of Josiah Wilson, a Haitian boy adopted as a baby into an Indigenous family.
Also, CIFF hosts an Industry Week, an opportunity for pass holders to network among industry professionals. Listen in on the conversation between visionary filmmakers or check out a master class with Ghostbusters: Afterlife editors Dana Glauberman and Nate Orloff. Hurry though, the deadline to buy passes is tomorrow!
Don’t miss: This year we co-present Subjects of Desire directed by Jamaican-born Canadian producer Jennifer Holness. Why this film?
Well, for one, we’ve touched on the politics of desire in a few articles; see: Reflections on Black Womanhood: On Joy & Life by Sarah Micho, and How I Really Feel About My Hair by Ado Nkemka. You could also argue that, at the end of the day, the desirability – or the lack thereof – of our African diaspora is what drives our mandate of amplifying Black voices. Special appearances include India.Arie and the oh-so-infamous Rachel Dolezal …
Showtimes for Subjects of Desire are September 23rd at 9 am (Video On Demand) and September 26th 1:15 pm (at Eau Claire 2). Audiences will be able to stream the video from the 23rd until October 3rd at 11:59 pm (MST).
All films will be available in-cinema with a large selection available for online viewing in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
Ooo! And Patreons, we might have something for you!
