SHEDJS: What initially sparked your passion for DJing, and how did you get started in the music scene?
I’ve been playing music for my entire life but I didn’t get into DJing until about a year ago. I really fell in love with the underground techno scene in LA and wanted to learn a new skill. It started off as just playing for my friends for fun and then I started booking gigs.
SHEDJS: Can you share a memorable experience from one of your performances or events that stands out in your mind?
One of my favorite performances was at an event called Gathering of the Elements hosted by Indigo Presents. It was at a small bar in Long Beach and it was so fun to turn a local bar into a rave.
SHEDJS: How do you approach creating a setlist or choosing tracks for a particular event or venue?
Every set list starts with a playlist. I’m constantly listening to tracks of different genres to see what I can use later. Once I have a general vibe of what I’d like in my set list I import the tracks to Serato and see what works well together.
SHEDJS: Are there specific genres or artists that have had a significant influence on your style?
I’m definitely inspired by hard techno artists like I Hate Models and Fatima Hajji. Seeing them live was super motivating.
After I Hate Models at EDCLV 2023 I knew I really wanted to dive into the world of DJing. I’m also very into blending techno and rap to create a signature sound.
SHEDJS: In a constantly evolving industry, how do you stay updated on new music trends and technologies?
SoundCloud is a gold mine for new tracks and remixes. I’m constantly sourcing music from there. I also try to see what popular tracks I can mashup or remix to keep my sets fresh.
SHEDJS: Do you have any advice for aspiring DJs looking to break into the scene or enhance their skills?
I think the main advice I would give is to stick with it and practice constantly. It’s easy to get frustrated sometimes (especially in the beginning) but if you stick with it you’ll develop your skills over time.
SHEDJS: What's next for you in terms of projects, collaborations, or upcoming gigs?
My next gig is a beach rave called “Beach Budz” on June 30th where I’ll be playing an experimental bass set. Then I’ll be playing a house set at Moonflower Mondays at The Falls Lounge in LA on July 8th. I’ve also been developing my production skills and I hope to start releasing music soon.
